2011 La NUCÍA (Alicante)
la nucía medical specialists centre &
day care centre
In 1999, Pedro Almodóvar directed “All About my Mother” obtaining the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, among others. Parts of the movie were filmed at the Hospital del Mar, a work by Albert Pineda and Manuel Brullet, where functionality is combined with the enjoyment of a privileged environment with sea views. The latter gave rise to the Medical Specialists Centre of La Nucía. This new functional centre includes waiting rooms giving on to a distant natural environment and the Mediterranean framed by the Mount Captivador hillside, uncovering new sensations and unexpected landscapes. The nave orientation of the nearby San Rafael chapel inspired the cross-shaped empty space that structures the whole work and relates the common areas with the surroundings. A cross-shaped floor vacuum, in contrast to the traditional transept, materialising a health building, a play of crosses, which, as in old pirate stories, mark the treasure.
